The European Aniridia Conference (EAC) is a biennial conference that brings together researchers, practitioners, and individuals with aniridia to share the latest scientific knowledge, experiences, and ideas about the rare genetic condition aniridia and related diseases.

This event presents a valuable opportunity to engage with distinguished experts, researchers, and advocates in the field of aniridia.

Join us to exchange insights, share experiences, and foster collaborations to advance research and support for the aniridia community.

Aniridia Bulgaria

Aniridia Bulgaria is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation (NGO) dedicated to supporting individuals with aniridia and their families. Its mission is to provide accessible information, foster connections, and advocate for the needs of people living with aniridia in Bulgaria. It empowers their lives through education, support, and community.

The association focuses its efforts in the following main directions, namely:

  1. Implementation of the latest achievements in the field of ophthalmology in medical practice and ensuring access to objective information for all members;
  2. Development of scientific interests and stimulation of theoretical, practical and scientific developments of its members;
  3. Coordination and joint work between the members of the association and other individuals and organisations with the aim of:
    • Improving the normative and ethical regulation concerning ophthalmological care in Bulgaria;
    • Improving the quality of medical services provided to patients by competent specialists in the field of ophthalmology;
    • Developing and strengthening the health culture of society in the field of ophthalmology through various forms of educational activities.
  4. Represents and protects the interests of the community and its members before state and municipal bodies, institutions, and third parties.
  5. Development of international activities and establishing contacts with similar organisations from Europe and the world.

Bulgarian Society of Ophthalmology

The society’s activities include:

  • Activities to improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of eye diseases in Bulgaria, Europe and the world.
  • Participation in various national and international events, projects, and programs.
  • Organisation of seminars, meetings, conferences, paid and free training, demonstrations in the country and abroad on implementing new technologies and practices.
  • Preparation of analyses, strategies, projects and programs on problems related to preventing, fighting and treating eye diseases.
  • Preparation of proposals for amendments and supplements to regulatory acts regulating the activities carried out by medical specialists who have acquired a speciality in the field of ophthalmology and the regulatory standards in ophthalmology.
  • Building and developing relationships and contacts between representatives of medical and patient organisations, and coordinating measures and events to promote a healthy culture among various groups in society.
  • Participation in other national and international organisations that are appropriate and consistent with the society’s goals to achieve professional and/or scientific goals.
  • Organising training for all residents and specialists in eye diseases to continuously improve their qualifications, and actively supporting and developing young and talented personnel.
  • Promoting the achievements of modern ophthalmology among ophthalmologists, general practitioners and doctors from other specialities and specialists working in the field of eye health.
  • Publishing specialised literature and the magazine “Bulgarian Ophthalmological Review”.
  • Annual assessment of the needs and problems in the field of ophthalmology, of the results and achievements and preparation of plans and strategies for future development.

Aniridia Europe

Aniridia Europe is a European federation mainly consisting of national, legally recognised aniridia organisations and non-legally recognised support groups and networks for and by persons diagnosed with aniridia and their families. It collaborates in spreading accurate information about aniridia and the best available treatments. It also supports and inspires research by creating scientific interest in aniridia and associated conditions and connecting professionals at the local and international levels.
